Indian Stock Markets to Observe Holiday for Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti
The Indian stock markets are set to observe a holiday on April 14, as the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed to mark Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti. This is the latest in a series of holidays that have disrupted trading in recent weeks. The NSE and BSE were also closed on Good Friday and Mahavir Jayanti in the previous week.
In total, 16 market holidays are scheduled for 2026, with six having already been observed. Following the closure on April 14, nine trading holidays remain for the rest of the year.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session on Ambedkar Jayanti but will reopen for the evening session. Meanwhile, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain shut for both morning and evening sessions on the day.
In 2026, four holidays fall on weekends and will not affect trading activity. These include Maha Shivaratri (February 15) and Eid al-Fitr (March 21), which have already passed, as well as Independence Day (August 15) and Diwali (November 8).
