Nifty 50 Plummets 250 Points, Sensex Drops 900 Points Amid Market Volatility
Indian Stock Market Plunges Amid US-Iran War Tensions and Crude Oil Price Surge
The Indian stock market is under intense selling pressure following the escalation of the US-Iran war and a significant increase in crude oil prices. The key Dalal Street indices, including the Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex, opened lower and touched their intraday lows within the first hour of trading.
The Nifty 50 index opened at 23,415 and plummeted to an intraday low of 23,225, resulting in a loss of over 250 points. The BSE Sensex had a downside opening at 74,507 and touched an intraday low of 73,719, logging a staggering intraday loss of around 930 points. The Bank Nifty index also opened with a downside gap at 53,541 and touched an intraday low of 53,127, recording an intraday loss of 587 points.
The market is under pressure due to several factors, including renewed tensions in the US-Iran war, soaring crude oil prices, inflation concerns, and hawkish global central banks. Additionally, outflows of US Dollar (USD) reserves and a bad monsoon forecast are also weighing on Indian stocks.
The US-Iran war has flared up in the Gulf after US-Iran peace talks stalled. The US military reported that Iranian missile attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, and other regional targets were thwarted or failed due to a lack of progress in diplomacy between Washington and Tehran. This fresh geopolitical uncertainty has triggered selling pressure on Dalal Street.
The market experts attribute the sell-off pressure to the renewed tensions in the US-Iran war, which has created a fresh wave of uncertainty. The Indian stock market is highly sensitive to global events, and the current situation is likely to have a significant impact on the market.
