NCLAT Rejects Vedanta's Challenge to Adani's Rs 14,500-Crore Resolution Plan for JAL
Adani Group Secures Victory in Jaiprakash Associates Takeover
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has rejected the challenge by Anil Agarwal's Vedanta against Adani Enterprises' winning bid for Jaiprakash Associates. This decision gives a significant boost to Adani's takeover of over $4 billion in prized assets of bankrupt Jaiprakash Associates, which include the country's only Formula One track.
According to reports, the appeals tribunal did not find merit in the issues raised in the challenge and dismissed the appeal. This outcome was confirmed by New Delhi-based lawyer Bishwajit Dubey, who spoke to Reuters about the matter.
The acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates' assets was approved by the Allahabad bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in March, with Adani Group's Rs 14,535 crore bid being accepted. However, Vedanta Group, which had put in a bid of Rs 17,926 crore, challenged this decision in the NCLAT. Vedanta Group was also in the running to acquire JAL through an insolvency process, but the lenders in November last year approved the resolution plan of Adani Enterprises Ltd.
