Government Works to Modernize Delhi's Transport Network
Union minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Tuesday that the Narendra Modi government is working to make Delhi's transport network modern and future-ready by constructing new expressways, ring roads, tunnels, and elevated corridors. The effort aims to improve connectivity, reduce fuel consumption, pollution, and increase economic growth.
Gadkari made the statement during a press conference after inspecting the six-lane access-controlled highway from DND Maharani Bagh to Junction with Jaitpur Pusta Road Section of NH-148 NA in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. The government's initiative is expected to create a world-class, green, sustainable, and seamless mobility network in the Delhi-NCR region in the coming days.
The government has committed significant funds to road projects in Delhi. Currently, it is involved in projects worth Rs 13,000 crore in the city. In addition, the government plans to spend Rs 34,500 crore on Delhi's upcoming projects, aimed at reducing congestion, pollution, and fuel consumption.

The upcoming projects include:

These projects include a Rs 3,500 crore extension to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, a Rs 7,500 crore extension to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to Noida-Faridabad, and a Rs 7,000 crore tunnel project from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Marg. The government is also investing in a Rs 6,500 crore service road on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), as well as two other projects worth Rs 1,500 crore each.
The Modi government had initially planned to decongest Delhi in 2015, with a vision to improve ease of living and mobility.
