Meesho Introduces Vaani, AI-Powered Voice Shopping Assistant, Targeting 500 Million Potential Users
Meesho Launches Generative AI-Powered Voice Shopping Assistant 'Vaani'
Meesho, a leading e-commerce platform backed by SoftBank, has announced the launch of Vaani, a conversational voice shopping assistant powered by generative AI. This move aims to tap into the estimated 500 million potential users in India who do not currently shop online.
Vaani, dubbed "Your Meesho Dost," is designed to provide an offline shopping experience by allowing users to discover products and complete purchases using natural language. During its first phase of rollout in February 2026, the assistant interacted with over 1.5 million users, resulting in a 22% higher conversion rate, alongside lower returns and cancellations.

Meesho plans to expand Vaani across India and into other regional languages in a phased manner. The assistant is currently available in English and Hindi. Meesho's in-house technology stack utilizes off-the-shelf Large Language Models (LLMs) that have been fine-tuned on the company's customer data.
Target Demographic
Meesho aims to target users who are comfortable with basic apps like WhatsApp and Facebook but find traditional e-commerce interfaces challenging. This demographic exists across smaller towns, villages, and pockets of Tier-1 cities.
Performance and Accuracy

Meesho has built strong guardrails and evaluation metrics to address concerns about AI hallucinations and accuracy. The company's previously launched customer support AI voicebot has already yielded better customer experience scores than human agents in scaled areas. With over 251 million annual transacting users, Meesho has a deep understanding of how India shops, allowing the company to anticipate and solve consumer needs in innovative ways.
Investor Takeaway
Investors should consider the potential growth of e-commerce in India and the impact of AI-powered voice shopping assistants on conversion rates.
