Matt Brittin, a 57-year-old former Google executive, has been appointed as the new Director General of British broadcaster BBC. According to a report by The Times, Brittin was appointed in a board meeting at BBC on Thursday, with an official announcement expected this week. This comes as Tim Davie steps down from his role on April 2, as previously announced in January.

Matt Brittin joined Google in 2007 and rose through the ranks to become President of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in 2014. He announced his departure from Google in a LinkedIn post last year, citing 18 years of service. Prior to Google, Brittin worked at Connell Wilson, a chartered surveyors firm, and later earned an MBA from the London Business School. He has also been a non-executive director at Sainsbury's and is set to join the board of Guardian Media Group in 2025.
