Karnataka Minister MB Patil Hails Bengaluru as Hub for Nvidia's Semiconductor Expansion
Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil Announces State's Focus on Semiconductors and Emerging Technologies
Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil announced on Tuesday that the state is strengthening its position in semiconductors and emerging technologies in response to Nvidia's major office expansion in Bengaluru. The move comes as Nvidia signed one of the largest office leasing deals in Bengaluru this year, taking up 7.6 lakh square feet of space in the Mahadevpura area.
According to documents accessed by Propstack, Nvidia has leased space across 12 floors at Bagmane Capital's Memphis South Tower from Bagmane Constructions Private Limited under a 10-year agreement that began on April 1. The deal involves a starting monthly rent of Rs 8.59 crore (Rs 113 per sq ft), with a 15% escalation every three years, taking the total rental outgo to over Rs 1,230 crore over the lease period. Nvidia has also paid a security deposit of Rs 34.35 crore.
Patil highlighted the changing nature of jobs, stating that the state needs to think beyond conventional engineering degrees and adopt upskilling, with a focus on ITIs becoming more important. He emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to workforce readiness, involving the government, experts, and industry to determine what is relevant. Officials from the Karnataka industries department echoed this sentiment, noting that while the state leads nationally in the services and IT sector, the next phase will be driven by artificial intelligence.

They emphasized that the state has the ecosystem and talent to adapt to AI and take advantage of the emerging opportunities in the sector. Patil's comments come as the state looks to strengthen its position in semiconductors and emerging technologies, with Nvidia's office expansion serving as a major milestone in this effort.
