Karnataka Establishes Quantum Task Force to Drive Quantum Technology Ecosystem
The Karnataka state government has constituted the Karnataka Quantum Task Force, as per an official order issued by the Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology. This move is aimed at establishing Karnataka as a national hub for quantum technology and innovation.
The task force has been set up to drive the implementation of the Karnataka Quantum Roadmap, which was unveiled recently at the Quantum India Bengaluru Summit. The task force will provide strategic direction and institutional support for the development of Karnataka's quantum technology ecosystem. This will involve guiding policy formulation, ecosystem development, research collaboration, startup support, and industry adoption of quantum technologies in Karnataka.
The task force will be led by Prof Arindam Ghosh, JRD Tata Chair Professor and JC Bose National Fellow at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, and the Managing Director of the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTEPS) will serve as Member Secretary. The 16-member committee comprises representatives from academia, research institutions, industry, and government.

The task force will play a key role in planning and overseeing the development of strategic infrastructure projects, including the proposed Quantum City at Hesaraghatta. This hub is envisioned as a major center for quantum research, innovation, and commercialization in India. The government aims to strengthen Karnataka's position in the emerging quantum technology sector and accelerate the implementation of the Karnataka Quantum Roadmap.
