Karnataka Aims to Develop 1,000 MW Data Centre Parks in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru
Karnataka Government Launches Initiative to Boost Industrial Growth with Data Centre Parks
On April 30, the Karnataka government decided to establish data centre parks in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru to stimulate industrial growth. This move follows a crucial meeting of key Ministers on the same day.
A 500 MW sustainable data centre park will be developed near Hoskote in Bengaluru. The park will utilise solar power from Pavagada, which will be supplied directly. The availability of 60 MLD of secondary treated water has been indicated by the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board, with industries expected to undertake tertiary treatment.
The preliminary meeting, held at Shakti Bhavan, was attended by Energy Minister KJ George, Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil, and IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge. The combined capacity of the three parks is estimated to be 1,000 MW.
| Location | Combined Capacity |
|---|---|
| Bengaluru | 500 MW |
| Mysuru | 300 MW |
| Mangaluru | 200 MW |
| Total | 1,000 MW |
In Mangaluru, approximately 350 acres in KIADB's Baikampady Industrial Area have been identified for a data park. Suitable land will also be identified in Mysuru.
To support investors, the government will provide power and water. Officials have been instructed to initiate preparatory work, with a meeting with potential investors anticipated soon.
In the next phase, a committee of Ministers, including Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, along with senior officials, will be formed to expedite the implementation process.
