IndiGo CEO Resigns Amid Operational Challenges
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IndiGo, has resigned from his position, effective 10 March, citing personal reasons. This move comes three months after a significant operational meltdown in December 2023, where IndiGo experienced widespread flight cancellations across India.
Between December 3 and 5, IndiGo cancelled nearly 2,500 flights and delayed a further 100, affecting approximately 300,000 passengers. Pieter Elbers, who joined the company in September 2022, has stepped down as CEO.
In his place, Rahul Bhatia, co-founder of IndiGo, has taken charge as interim CEO. Bhatia has issued an internal note to employees, expressing gratitude and committing to rectify the issues that have plagued the airline.
