
India's Airlines Set New Standard for Female Pilot Representation
Indian Aviation Sector Sees Significant Increase in Female Representation
IndiGo and Air India, two leading airlines in the country, have reported a notable increase in female representation in their workforce, particularly among pilots. According to the latest figures, 17.5% of IndiGo's total pilots are female, while 16% of Air India's overall pilots are female. These numbers are among the highest globally and surpass the global average.
IndiGo has a total of over 1,000 female pilots, which comprises 45% of its overall workforce. The airline has also achieved significant representation of women in other roles, including 30% in airport operations, 25% in operations control centre, 20% in finance, and 15% in its digital segment. Moreover, women represent 23% of leadership positions within the company.
Air India, with a workforce of over 24,000 staff, has also seen a significant increase in female representation. Women continue to make up 84% of the airline's cabin crew, and their representation in airport operations has grown from 24% to 31% in two years. In security, the representation has increased from 14% to 22%.
Both airlines have expressed their commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, with a focus on encouraging women to pursue careers in aviation and leadership.
