International Job Offer Secured through Strategic Preparation
Amazon Software Engineer Kartik Modi has shared his approach to securing a high-value international job offer while remaining based in India, without relying on overseas contacts.
Modi's Preparation Roadmap
Modi's process began with defining a shortlist of 25 to 30 international companies that offered visa sponsorship. He utilized platforms such as LinkedIn Jobs, Indeed, and Levels.fyi to identify openings. By examining 35 to 40 job descriptions, he detected recurring requirements and incorporated key skills into his preparation roadmap.

Structured Interview Preparation
Modi's preparation spanned approximately 10 to 12 weeks, with a clearly defined schedule. The first five weeks focused on data structures and algorithms, followed by a period dedicated to system design. The final phase covered domain knowledge, behavioural preparation, and mock interviews.
Key Preparation Strategies
Modi selectively solved around 100 data structures and algorithms problems, concentrating on identifying patterns and ensuring clarity of approach. He also practised verbal explanations of his solutions. In system design preparation, he worked through eight to ten commonly tested systems, including authentication, payments, search, and notification systems. His preparation covered application programming interfaces, database design, caching strategies, and handling failure scenarios.

Resume and Interview Preparation
To align with hiring practices used by global companies, Modi prepared a single-page curriculum vitae that emphasized measurable outcomes. He avoided what he referred to as "Indian formatting." He also completed between six and eight mock interview sessions to identify weaknesses and improve performance.
Job Offer and Reflection
Modi's preparation resulted in an international job offer valued at Rs 1.8 crore. Reflecting on the process, he emphasized the importance of focusing on preparation rather than assuming relocation is necessary before applying for global roles.
Investor Takeaway
Remote job opportunities exist in the tech industry, and with the right preparation, candidates can secure high-value international job offers without relocating.
