Indian Stock Market Sees Sudden Crash on Monday
The Indian stock market witnessed a sharp decline on Monday, 11 May, as a strong wave of selloff engulfed the market. The key benchmarks, Sensex, and the Nifty 50, suffered significant losses during the session. The 30-share pack Sensex plummeted almost 1,000 points, or more than 1%, to an intraday low of 76,364.
The NSE counterpart, Nifty 50, also declined by more than 1% to the day's low of 23,896. This decline was not limited to the major indices, as the BSE 150 Midcap and 250 Smallcap indices also fell by up to 1% during the session.
The overall market capitalization of BSE-listed firms dropped to nearly ₹469.5 lakh crore from ₹473.5 lakh crore in the previous session. This decline resulted in a loss of ₹4 lakh crore for investors within minutes.
