Market Update: Indian Stock Market Suffers Strong Losses
The Indian stock market experienced significant losses during morning trade on Friday, March 27. The Sensex and Nifty 50, the country's equity benchmarks, declined by over 1%. The Sensex plummeted 900 points to an intraday low of 74,347, while the Nifty 50 dropped nearly 300 points to a day's low of 23,026.
The decline was not limited to the large-cap indices, as the mid-cap and small-cap indices on the BSE also dropped by over 1% each. This resulted in a substantial loss of ₹6 lakh crore for investors within a short period. The cumulative market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms declined to ₹425 lakh crore from ₹431 lakh crore in the previous session.
