India Considers Energy Supply Requests from Mauritius and Seychelles

India is considering requests for energy supplies from Mauritius and Seychelles, according to a statement made by Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday. The government is reportedly seeking a government-to-government pact with both countries to facilitate energy cooperation. This move follows a similar request from Seychelles, highlighting India's growing role in regional energy diplomacy.

India is already shipping fuel to several of its neighboring countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. The Indian government has also received a request for energy supplies from the Maldives. This extensive energy cooperation is a key aspect of India's foreign policy, as the country seeks to strengthen its regional ties and secure its energy needs.

India's dependence on the Strait of Hormuz for 40% of its crude imports has led to increased diplomatic efforts to ensure the safe passage of oil shipments. In response to this challenge, India has been invited by Britain and France to join their initiative to open the Strait of Hormuz. This joint effort aims to mitigate the risks associated with the region's volatile politics and ensure a stable supply of energy to the global market.
