India Seen on Track to Achieve Developed Nation Status by 2047: Economist Jeffrey Sachs
India on Track to Become Developed Nation by 2047, Says Renowned Economist Jeffrey D Sachs
Renowned economist Jeffrey D Sachs has predicted that India will become a developed nation by 2047, provided the country continues its current economic growth trajectory. Sachs made this statement on Wednesday while addressing an event organized by the industry body Ficci.
Sachs emphasized that India should not align itself with any specific nation, including the United States. He suggested that India should aim to maintain good relations with all countries while avoiding being part of anyone else's strategy. This approach would enable India to navigate its relationships with other nations, such as China, in a more equitable manner.
According to Sachs, India should handle its bilateral issues with China independently, rather than participating in a US-led effort that is overtly anti-China. He also expressed concerns about India's involvement in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (the Quad), a strategic partnership between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States.

Sachs, a professor of economics at Columbia University, acknowledged India's history of innovation, citing the country's invention of the non-aligned movement as a "very good idea." He suggested that China should champion India's bid to become the sixth member of the UN Security Council, citing the need for India to have a permanent seat on the council.
The government's Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap aims to make India a completely developed nation, and Sachs' predictions align with this vision.
