India and US Close to Finalizing Trade Agreement
India-US Trade Agreement: Government Revisits Terms Amid Shifting Ground Realities
India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has revealed that the country and the United States have finalized a trade agreement, but recent changes have necessitated a revisit of its terms.
According to Goyal, the original framework of the agreement included provisions for any changed circumstances that may arise in the future. These provisions stipulated that the deal would be recalibrated to secure preferential market access for Indian goods in the United States. This approach was designed to ensure that India continues to benefit from the agreement despite any shifts in the global market.
The negotiations between India and the US are currently underway as the government works to bring the agreement to closure. Additionally, efforts are being made to resolve all pending investigations under Section 301. While more details are awaited, the government's efforts to revisit the terms of the agreement highlight the importance of flexibility in international trade agreements.
