Indane LPG Refill Booking System Crashes Due to Unprecedented Call Volumes

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd's (IOCL) LPG brand, Indane, is facing an unprecedented situation with its LPG refill booking system across the country crashing due to call volumes surging to 8-10 times the usual levels. The company has reported that the number of calls received for LPG refill booking on its IVRS and missed call numbers has increased significantly, resulting in the entire system coming under heavy load.

Impact on Consumers

The situation has caused chaos, with consumers unable to book refills through the system thronging distributor offices. The vendor invoice management system is also down, and the supply of domestic cylinders has reduced by 50% while demand has increased by 50%. Customers are facing difficulty in booking refills, and some are even visiting distributor offices to collect receipts and cylinders.

Steps Taken by Indane

To improve the situation, Indane has taken several steps, including increasing system capacity and reducing the number of audio prompts to enable customers to complete the booking process faster. However, due to ongoing panic and repeated booking attempts, the system continues to experience tremendous pressure.

Alternate Booking Channels

Indane has advised consumers to use alternate booking channels, such as:

  • WhatsApp booking
  • IndianOil ONE mobile app
  • Customer portal (indianoil.in)
  • BBPS platforms such as Amazon Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm

The company has also requested consumers to try booking during off-peak hours, preferably after 6 pm when the system load is relatively lower. Additionally, the system enters a non-business hour processing cycle after 10 pm every day, and all booking requests received between 10 pm and 6 am are processed after 6 am the next day.

Investor Takeaway

Investors should be aware of potential short-term disruptions in Indane's LPG refill booking system due to high demand.
