HDFC Bank Trims Workforce Amid Continued Growth

HDFC Bank has made a strategic shift in its workforce, evident in a recent reduction in employee count despite continued growth in advances and deposits during the year. Notably, this marks a significant turnaround from the second quarter of FY23, when the merger between HDFC Bank and HDFC Ltd was operationalized, resulting in a total employee count of 1,97,899. The bank's workforce had been expanding over the past three fiscal years, with a notable drop from December 2025 to March 2026. As a result, the bank's employee costs decreased to approximately Rs 6,227 crore by the end of the March quarter, compared to Rs 7,203 crore at the end of the December quarter.

In other key developments, HDFC Bank's distribution network expanded to 9,689 branches and 21,172 ATMs across 4,175 cities/towns as of March 31, 2026, up from 9,455 branches and 21,139 ATMs across 4,150 cities/towns as of March 31, 2025.
