HCLTech to Eliminate 120 Positions at Its US Operations in Orlando
HCLTech to Lay Off 120 Employees in Florida as Part of Operational Restructuring
HCLTech's US subsidiary has initiated plans to lay off 120 employees in Florida, as part of an operational restructuring linked to a client engagement at an Orlando worksite. The layoffs, affecting employees stationed at San Marco Court in Orlando, are scheduled to begin on May 29 and continue through December 31, with a small number of "additional separations" extending into early 2027.
According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing on April 1, the job cuts are permanent. The US' WARN Act requires employers to give advance notice of mass layoffs or plant closures if the affected employees are more than 100 in number. The filing indicates that the impacted employees were aligned to a specific project, pointing to a rampdown or transition in that engagement.
HCLTech has a workforce of over 226,000 in 60 countries. The company added that affected workers will be considered for redeployment opportunities within the company or other client engagements, depending on skill fit and availability. This development comes close on the heels of similar layoffs announced by Infosys in the US, highlighting a broader trend of workforce recalibration among Indian IT services firms operating in the region as clients ramp-down projects.

Industry experts say such moves are increasingly tied to structural shifts in outsourcing economics. With the rise of automation and artificial intelligence, companies are reassessing their staffing needs and optimizing their workforce strategies. The layoffs reflect a combination of client-specific transitions and a wider reset in workforce strategies, as companies adapt to the changing technology landscape.
In July, HCLTech's management had signalled workforce restructuring, spread across FY26, aimed at achieving operational agility and protecting margins amid a shifting technology landscape dominated by artificial intelligence (AI). The restructuring was planned in phases across the second and third quarters, with some impact extending into the fourth quarter. HCLTech will announce its Q4 results on April 21.
