Market Performance
At close, the Sensex was up 1073.61 points or 1.42 percent at 76,488.96, and the Nifty was up 312.40 points or 1.32 percent at 24,031.70. The sectoral front saw most sectors trading in positive territory, with major gains noted in Nifty PSU and PVT banks, Auto, and Realty sectors. The only laggard was the Nifty FMCG sector.
The positive market performance can be attributed to the benchmark indices opening with a strong gap-up on 25 May and maintaining their positive momentum throughout the session. The optimism over progress in U.S.-Iran peace talks triggered a sharp correction in crude oil prices below $96 per barrel, supporting a marginal recovery in the Indian Rupee. The positive global cues helped the Nifty close above the crucial 24,000 mark.
| Sector | Nifty Index | Percentage Change |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty PSU | Up | 1.51% |
| Nifty PVT banks | Up | 2.12% |
| Auto | Up | 1.43% |
| Realty | Up | 1.21% |
| Nifty FMCG | Down | 0.54% |
| Nifty Midcap | Up | 0.94% |
| Nifty Small cap | Up | 1.37% |
