Market Performance Takes a Hit on May 15 Amid Volatility
Foreign investors (FIIs/FPIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) exhibited contrasting behavior on May 15, with FIIs net buying shares worth Rs 1,329 crore, while DIIs net sold shares worth Rs 1,958 crore.
During the trading session, DIIs purchased shares worth Rs 14,962 crore and sold shares worth Rs 16,920 crore. Meanwhile, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 16,300 crore but sold shares totalling Rs 14,970 crore. This buying and selling activity is reflective of the overall market sentiment.

For the year so far, FIIs have been net sellers of shares worth Rs 2.64 lakh crore, while DIIs have net bought shares worth Rs 3.72 lakh crore. This indicates a significant divergence in the investment strategies of foreign and domestic institutional investors.
Market Decline on May 15
Benchmark indices ended on a negative note on 15 May amid heightened volatility, according to a note by Bajaj Broking. The market witnessed profit booking in the latter half of the session after touching an intraday high of 23,839.30. The decline was attributed to a rise in crude oil prices and continued weakness in the Indian Rupee, which hovered near all-time low levels.
Sectoral Performance

On the sectoral front, major weakness was witnessed in Nifty Realty, PSU Bank, Oil & Gas, and Metal indices. In contrast, selective buying interest was seen in Nifty Media, IT, and FMCG stocks. The remaining sectors ended on a mixed note, reflecting a cautious undertone across the market.
Broad Market Performance
The broader market also witnessed profit booking pressure, with the Nifty Midcap 100 declining by 0.45% and the Nifty Small Cap 100 falling by 0.61%, indicating broad-based selling pressure across the broader indices.
