Export Certificates for Omani Imports Under CEPA to be Issued from June 1
India-Oman CEPA to Boost Exports with Preferential Certificate of Origin
The government has announced that preferential certificates of origin for exports to Oman under the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will be issued from June 1, 2026, through the Trade Connect portal. This move is aimed at facilitating duty concessions for Indian exporters under the CEPA, which will come into effect on the same day.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has informed that the preferential certificate of origin will be rolled out on the Trade Connect ePlatform, a unified digital platform for the application and issuance of electronic certificates of origin for Indian exports. The certificate of origin is a crucial document required for exports to countries with which India has trade agreements, and it must be submitted at the landing port of the importing country to claim duty concessions under free trade agreements.
The India-Oman CEPA, signed in December 2025, is expected to provide a significant boost to bilateral trade. Under the agreement, India will enjoy duty-free access to 98 per cent of its exports, including textiles, agricultural products, and leather goods, in Oman. In return, India will reduce tariffs on Omanese products such as dates, marbles, and petrochemical items.

The trade data shows that exports from India to Oman were worth USD 4 billion, while imports from Oman were valued at USD 6.54 billion.
