Eris Lifesciences and Natco Pharma Launch Semaglutide Generic Therapies in India
On March 21, 2024, Eris Lifesciences and Natco Pharma will simultaneously introduce their generic semaglutide therapies in India, marking a significant expansion of the diabetes portfolio for both companies.
Eris Lifesciences will launch its generic Ozempic under the brand name Sundae, available in multi-dose vials at a monthly price point of Rs 1,290 for the 2 mg/1.5 ml and 4 mg/3 ml strengths. This pricing strategy aims to increase affordability and address the cost barrier to adoption of advanced metabolic therapies in India.
Natco Pharma has received approval from the CDSCO for both multi-dose vials and pen devices, following a comparative clinical evaluation. Natco Pharma will launch its semaglutide injections under the brand names SEMANAT and SEMAFULL, with a monthly price point of Rs 1,290 for the 2 mg/1.5 ml and 4 mg/3 ml strengths. The company will also offer an Rs 1,750 pack for the 8 mg/3 ml variant. Pen devices are slated for an April release at price points between Rs 4,000 and Rs 4,500, depending on strength.

Natco Pharma has positioned itself as the first domestic manufacturer to offer semaglutide in a vial dosage form, making it the most affordable GLP-1 option in India, up to 90% cheaper than innovator pricing. The company is also open to co-marketing partnerships, creating commercial opportunities for companies like Eris Lifesciences to broaden distribution and accelerate uptake in the fast-growing category.
