Delhi Government Proposes 100% Road Tax Waiver for Electric Vehicles Priced Up to Rs 30 Lakh Until March 2030
Delhi Government Unveils Draft Electric Vehicle Policy 2026-2030
The Delhi government has released a new draft electric vehicle (EV) policy, offering a range of incentives to promote the adoption of electric cars in the national capital. According to the draft policy, all electric cars with an ex-showroom price of Rs 30 lakh or less registered in Delhi will be granted 100 per cent exemption on road tax and registration fees until 31 March 2030.
The draft Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026-2030 proposes a 50 per cent exemption for strong hybrid EVs. However, electric cars with an ex-showroom price above Rs 30 lakh will not be eligible for any exemption from road tax and registration fees. Additionally, the policy states that from January 1, 2027, new registrations of only electric three-wheelers will be permitted in Delhi.
The policy aims to accelerate electric vehicle adoption, improve air quality, and create a supportive ecosystem for electric mobility. It will be applicable from the date of notification, and the Delhi government has invited feedback and comments from the public for the next 30 days.

The draft policy builds on the momentum of the previous EV policy launched in August 2020 by the AAP government. The policy's initial three-year term ended in August 2023, and the government has been extending it since then. The draft policy is expected to play a crucial role in tackling vehicular pollution and promoting the adoption of EVs in Delhi.
