Centre Announces Support for Onion Growers Amid Falling Prices
The Centre has announced a support package for onion growers in the country, with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announcing a procurement price of Rs 12.35 per kg for onions from farmers. The announcement was made on Friday in Satara, Maharashtra, a major onion-producing state, in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The move comes in the backdrop of falling onion prices, which have been affected by the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The crisis was triggered by the joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February 28. The Union minister stated that he discussed the onion price crisis with Fadnavis, highlighting the need for support to onion growers.

To mitigate the impact of the falling prices, the Centre has decided to procure the entire stock of onions at the new rate. Chouhan stated that directives in this regard have been issued to the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED). The Centre's move is expected to provide relief to onion growers and support the country's agricultural sector.
