Catamaran President Warns Companies Against Overpromising in IPOs
Global Wealth Summit 2026 Highlights Key Financial Trends
Catamaran President Deepak Padaki emphasized the importance of authenticity in financial markets, warning companies against artificially inflating their valuations to attract investors for initial public offerings (IPOs). Speaking at the Moneycontrol Global Wealth Summit 2026 in Mumbai, Padaki cautioned that the markets will eventually uncover any such attempts.
Catamaran's Long-Term Investment Strategy Padaki highlighted the firm's focus on long-term investments, stating that the company is a test match player, not a T20 player. This approach involves waiting out market volatility and allocating assets effectively to maximize returns. He also emphasized the importance of asset allocation, ensuring that investors have sufficient liquidity to capitalize on market fluctuations.
Insights on Venture Capital and Private Equity Investments Padaki noted that companies backed by venture capital (VC) or private equity (PE) investors before reaching the public market are a relatively new concept. Catamaran is learning about this phenomenon and its implications for investors.
Market Trends and Valuations Founder and managing partner of Sharrp Ventures, Rishabh Mariwala, warned about potential price corrections in public markets over the next three to six months. He attributed this to high valuations across small-caps, mid-caps, and large-caps, which are still above the mean. Mariwala also highlighted the challenges of justifying high multiples in private markets, where founders often acquire companies at inflated valuations.
Supporting Portfolio Companies in Times of Volatility Chandra Sekhar Garisa Reddy, MD & CEO of Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL), emphasized the importance of supporting portfolio companies during periods of market uncertainty. Reddy noted that companies are now more aware of the need to deliver strong results in the first two to three years after listing.
Diversification Strategies Venkat Subramanian R, Chief Information Officer at USK Capital, outlined the company's approach to diversification, focusing on mid and small-cap investments in sectors such as chemicals and engineering. USK Capital also aims to diversify beyond financial services, exploring attractive pockets in the public markets.
