Burger King to Implement AI-Powered Staff Evaluation System Focusing on Customer Service Etiquette
Burger King Introduces AI Chatbot "Patty" for Enhanced Employee Support
Burger King is launching an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot called Patty as part of its larger system, BK Assistant. Currently being tested in approximately 500 restaurants, Patty will assist employees with tasks such as meal preparation and answering work-related questions. The chatbot will integrate with existing headsets used by staff to provide real-time support.
Patty will also analyze employee interactions with customers, tracking polite language and phrases. Managers can access this data to evaluate the friendliness of their outlet. The company emphasizes that this tool is designed to coach and improve service quality, rather than punish employees.
BK Assistant is powered by OpenAI, connecting various aspects of the restaurant's operations, including drive-thru conversations, kitchen machines, inventory, and billing systems. Employees can ask Patty practical questions, such as ingredient quantities or maintenance procedures, to streamline their workflow.

The AI system is linked to Burger King's cloud-based billing system, ensuring that managers are alerted to machine breakdowns or stock shortages in real-time. The system updates inventory and menu boards automatically within 15 minutes, preventing customers from seeing unavailable items.
While Burger King is introducing Patty to employee headsets, it remains cautious about rolling out AI-powered drive-thrus across all locations. The company is currently testing this technology in fewer than 100 restaurants, considering it a "risky bet" due to customer comfort levels.
BK Assistant is scheduled to launch its full web and app platform across all US outlets by the end of 2026.
Investor Takeaway
Investors should note that Burger King's focus on customer service etiquette may lead to improved brand reputation and customer loyalty.
