BNP Paribas SA's Insurance Unit in Talks to Acquire Minority Stake in IndiaFirst Life Insurance Co.
BNP Paribas Cardif SA, the insurance unit of BNP Paribas SA, is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire a 26% stake in IndiaFirst Life Insurance Co. from Warburg Pincus in a deal that could value the company at approximately $350 million.
The transaction, which is subject to finalization, would see BNP Paribas Cardif expand its presence in South Asia, a region where the company operates through a hub in Hong Kong. Cardif operates in 30 countries across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, with €302 billion ($345 billion) in assets under management.
Bank of Baroda currently owns a 65% stake in IndiaFirst, while Union Bank of India Ltd. holds a 9% stake. IndiaFirst has over 16 million customers, according to its website, and operates primarily through joint ventures with local banks in mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.

This potential acquisition marks a significant expansion of BNP Paribas' presence in India, where the bank has operated since 1860. The bank offers a range of banking services through branches in major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
