Bihar Highways Upgraded: Cabinet Approves NH-31 and NH-231 Improvements
Bihar Highway Upgradation Project Gets Cabinet Approval
The Indian Cabinet has approved the upgradation of the Khagaria-Purnea Section of NH-31 and NH-231 to a four-lane highway in Bihar on BOT (Toll) mode for a total cost of Rs 3,936.05 crore. This significant infrastructure project aims to address severe geometric deficiencies, sharp curves, and congestion in built-up areas across Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar, and Purnia districts.
The proposed upgradation will improve the overall road conditions, enabling average travel speeds to increase, and reducing travel time to approximately two hours. Additionally, the project will enhance road safety, fuel efficiency, and vehicle operating costs, thereby promoting regional mobility and socio-economic development.
As part of the project, a 6.729-kilometre extended greenfield bypass of Purnea City will be developed, ensuring seamless connectivity to key economic, social, and logistics nodes across Bihar. The upgraded corridor will also facilitate multi-modal integration by connecting with 05 PM Gati-Shakti Economic Nodes and 11 Logistic Nodes, including 04 Major Railway Stations, 01 Airport, 04 NHs, and 02 SHs. This will enable the faster movement of goods and passengers across the region, promoting economic growth and development.
