Bengaluru: Auto LPG Price Surges by Rs 11.78 Per Litre to Rs 89.52 Amid Supply Shortage
Auto LPG Price Hikes in Bengaluru: Public Sector OMCs Raise Rates Amid Global Tensions
Auto LPG prices at filling stations operated by public sector oil marketing companies (IOCL) in Bengaluru increased by Rs 11.78 per litre on April 1, taking the rate to Rs 89.52 per litre. This revision comes after a previous increase on March 20, 2026, when the price stood at Rs 77.74 per litre.
The price hike has sparked concerns among auto drivers, who are already facing a shortage of Auto LPG. Many private auto LPG stations are charging exorbitant rates, up to Rs 106 per litre, taking advantage of the shortage. This has led to long queues at filling stations, with some stretching up to 2 km.
The shortage of Auto LPG has also led to higher fares for customers. Auto drivers are being forced to charge more due to the unavailability of fuel. A private auto LPG dealer reported that the price of one tonne of LPG has surged from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.90 lakh due to the Iran war, which has disrupted energy supplies worldwide.

However, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has stated that there is no shortage of Auto LPG in the state. In a press release dated March 29, 2026, the department reported that Auto LPG is readily available at 72 Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS) across Karnataka, including 31 in Bengaluru. The public sector OMCs have dispensed an average of 64.9 metric tonnes of Auto LPG per day, indicating an increase in supply. The state government has assured that it continues to closely monitor the situation to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply to all sectors.
