Balkrishna Expands Product Portfolio with On-Road Tyre Offerings
India's Largest Exporter of Off-Highway Tyres Adapts to Shifting Global Trade Landscape
New Delhi: For nearly three decades, Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT) has built its identity around a focused strategy: manufacturing specialized off-highway tyres in India and selling them across global markets. The Mumbai-based company's approach has turned it into India's largest exporter in the segment.
However, the company is now reworking that strategy in response to the changing global trade dynamics. Tariff wars, slowing western markets, and geopolitical disruptions are reshaping the landscape, prompting the Poddar family-promoted company to refocus its efforts on the Indian market and on-road tyres. In addition to this, the company is expanding its presence in adjacent businesses, such as carbon black.
| Segment | BKT's Focus (Pre-2024) | BKT's Focus (Post-2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Off-Highway Tyres | Global markets | India and select global markets |
| On-Road Tyres | Limited presence | Increased focus and expansion |
