
ATM Withdrawal Rules to Undergo Changes April 1: Consumers Advised to Review Pre-Withdrawal Procedures
Bank ATM Rule Changes to Take Effect from April 1, 2026
Several leading banks have introduced revised ATM rules that will impact the way ATM transactions are counted and charged. The changes will come into effect on April 1, 2026.
HDFC Bank ATM Rule Changes
HDFC Bank will now include UPI-based ATM cash withdrawals within the same category as card-based transactions while calculating the monthly free transaction limit. Customers will be entitled to:
- 5 free transactions at HDFC Bank ATMs
- 3 free transactions at other-bank ATMs in metro cities
- 5 free transactions at other-bank ATMs in non-metro areas
UPI withdrawals will be part of these limits, and any transactions beyond them will attract a charge of Rs 23 per withdrawal, plus applicable taxes.
Domestic ATM transactions done post 7:30 PM will be considered as the next day's transaction. On the last day of the month, ATM transactions done post 7:30 PM would be considered in the subsequent month.
Punjab National Bank Daily Withdrawal Limit Revision
Punjab National Bank has revised the daily ATM cash withdrawal limits for certain debit cards, effective April 1, 2026. The maximum daily withdrawal limit has been reduced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000 for select card variants, including:
- RuPay NCMC Platinum Domestic and International debit cards
- RuPay Women Power Platinum debit card
- RuPay PNB Palaash debit card
- RuPay Business Platinum NCMC debit card
- MasterCard Platinum debit card
- VISA Gold debit card
- PNB MasterCard Platinum Rise
Bandhan Bank ATM Rule Changes
Bandhan Bank customers will be allowed up to 5 free financial transactions per month at Bandhan Bank ATMs, while non-financial transactions will remain unlimited. At ATMs of other banks, the free transaction limit will be:
- 3 per month in metro cities (including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi)
- 5 per month in non-metro cities
Once customers exceed the monthly limit of free ATM transactions, the bank will charge for additional usage:
- Each extra financial transaction: Rs 23
- Non-financial transactions beyond the free limit: Rs 10 per transaction
- Penalty for failed transactions due to insufficient funds: Rs 25
