Background Apple Inc. has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding US manufacturing, with a significant announcement made by CEO Tim Cook on Tuesday. As part of the company's $600B commitment, Apple will produce the Mac mini desktop computer in the United States for the first time later this year.
Manufacturing Expansion The production of Mac mini will be located in Houston, Texas, where Apple is also accelerating the production of artificial intelligence (AI) servers. The company has already begun shipping advanced AI servers from Houston ahead of schedule. This expansion is expected to create thousands of jobs and solidify Apple's presence in the region.
American Manufacturing Program Apple's expansion plan in Houston is part of the company's previously announced commitment under its American Manufacturing Program. Since outlining this commitment, Apple has achieved several milestones, including procuring over 20 billion US-made chips from 24 factories across 12 states.

Partnerships and Investments Apple has partnered with companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), Broadcom, and Texas Instruments to source US-made chips. Additionally, GlobalWafers has commenced production at its new $4 billion bare silicon wafer facility in Sherman, Texas, which will supply wafers to Apple's US-based chipmaking partners.
Future Plans In 2026, Apple expects to purchase over 100 million advanced chips manufactured at TSMC's Arizona plant. The company has also launched the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, providing hands-on training in AI, automation, and smart manufacturing to over 130 small and mid-sized manufacturers in the country.
New Facilities and Training Apple is investing in developing the workforce behind US manufacturing. A new 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center is set to open in Houston later this year, offering practical training in advanced manufacturing methods to students, supplier staff, and businesses across the country.
