Luxury Travel in India: What a Month-Long Trip Costs

India is widely regarded as one of the world's most affordable travel destinations, with budget hotels, local transport, and street food offering great value for money. However, what happens when you swap budget stays for luxury hotels, local travel for frequent flights, and simple sightseeing for private guides and premium experiences? A recent trip by an American couple, Alex and Amelia, has left social media users talking with a whopping cost that has surprised many online.

The couple traveled across 13 Indian cities in just 30 days, sharing their expenses on Instagram. Their post quickly gained attention, with many users wondering how a trip in India could cost that much. According to their post, the couple's journey was focused more on comfort and convenience than saving money. One major reason for the high cost was the pace of their travel, covering 13 cities in just one month, which meant they had to spend a lot of time transporting.

To keep up with their schedule, they took six domestic flights, six private car rides, and two train journeys. Accommodation was another area where expenses steadily added up, with the couple paying approximately $127 USD per night for 30 nights. Food was also a significant expense, with the pair eating out for all three meals every day and visiting restaurants regularly.

The little things added up quickly, including every palace tour, guide, tuk-tuk ride, and shopping for small souvenirs. When Alex and Amelia finally reviewed all their expenses, they realised just how much they had spent. In total, they spent $10,605 (Approx Rs 10 lakh) for their 30-day trip in India, which translates to $354 (Approx Rs 33,600) per day.

The total surprised even them, and as their post went viral, social media users quickly joined the discussion. Some felt the amount was far too high, while others believed it was reasonable considering the couple's travel style.

Expense CategoryTotal Amount
Flights$2,400
Accommodation$3,810 (30 nights x $127 USD per night)
Food$2,400 (eating out for all three meals every day)
Transportation$1,200 (six domestic flights, six private car rides, and two train journeys)
Experiences$1,195 (palace tours, guides, tuk-tuk rides, and shopping for small souvenirs)
Total$10,605

The discussion highlights the varying costs associated with traveling in India, depending on one's travel style and preferences. While some may find the couple's expenses excessive, others believe it's a reasonable price to pay for premium experiences.
