
Airtel Africa Chair Sunil Mittal to Depart in July, Replaced by Gopal Vittal
Airtel Africa Board Leadership Transition
Sunil Bharti Mittal, current Chair of the Airtel Africa Board, will retire in July 2026, marking a significant leadership transition for the London-listed company. Mittal, who has served as Chair since Airtel Africa's listing in 2019, will step down at the conclusion of the company's annual general meeting (AGM) in July 2026.
Gopal Vittal will be appointed as the non-executive Chair of the Board from the same date, assuming the role from Mittal. Additionally, Shravin Bharti Mittal, Sunil's son, will take on the position of Deputy Chair of the Board from July 2026.
Mittal expressed gratitude to the Board for their support during his tenure and expressed confidence in the company's strategy and leadership team. He noted that the company has a strong foundation and will continue to prosper in its mission to provide transformative connectivity to its customers across 14 African countries.
