Air India Express to Undergo Leadership Change

Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, will step down from his role on 19 March 2026, marking the end of his five-year tenure. During his tenure, Air India Express has grown to become India's third-largest narrow-body operator, with a fleet of over 100 aircraft and approximately 8,300 employees.

Captain Hamish Maxwell will assume the role of accountable manager, overseeing safety compliance and operational standards. Maxwell will be responsible for ensuring that the carrier meets all regulatory requirements. Singh's departure comes after leading the low-cost carrier through its integration with the erstwhile AirAsia India business following the Tata Group's acquisition of Air India.

Aloke Singh joined Air India Express in 2020, navigating the airline through the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent challenges. Prior to his tenure, Singh held senior leadership roles in the aviation industry, including MD of AirAsia India and Oman Air. He holds an MBA from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and a fellowship from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Air India Express is expected to report an operating profit in the second half of the current financial year, marking its first since being acquired by the Tata Group in 2022. The airline is targeting a doubling of its capacity in the next four to five years, with plans to expand its fleet to over 200 aircraft.

Investor Takeaway

Air India Express' leadership change may have a minimal impact on the airline's operations and market performance.
