Adani Group Stocks Rise Amid Reports of US Settlement in Gautam Adani Fraud Lawsuit
Adani Enterprises Shares Rise Amid US Authorities' Potential Dismissal of Fraud Allegations
Shares of Adani Enterprises saw a significant increase of 3.8% on Friday, 15 May, following reports that US authorities are considering dismissing fraud allegations against Gautam Adani. This development led to positive gains for other Adani group companies, including Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.5%), Adani Green Energy (4%), Adani Energy Solutions (4.2%), and Adani Power (2.3%).
According to a Reuters report, the US Justice Department is nearing a decision to dismiss criminal fraud charges against Adani. The report cites people familiar with the matter, stating that this development could lead to the dismissal of the associated criminal case. Additionally, Adani has settled a related civil fraud lawsuit initiated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission regarding claims of bribing Indian government officials. The settlement is pending court approval.
Adani's attorney, Robert Giuffra, who also represents former US President Donald Trump, argued before Justice Department officials last month that the ongoing litigation could impede Adani's intended investments in the United States. The US Justice Department is reportedly considering Giuffra's arguments, which focused on disputing the jurisdiction and evidentiary foundation of the case.

If the allegations are dismissed, Adani has pledged to invest $10 billion in the US economy, with plans to generate approximately 15,000 jobs. Reuters reported that this investment is contingent on Adani's anticipated victory in the 2024 election, following which he revealed plans to invest in the US.
